This month sees the return of Champions League ad IBB Polonia London to Bełchatów, Poland. The Champions of England, on Tuesday 5th October and Thursday 7th October, face off against the Belarus Champions Shakhtar Soligorsk in the first round of the CEV Champions League. The matches are free for fans to attend. The two header will take place in Poland due to the restrictions of the pandemic which eliminate the opportunity of playing the games in England. The matches are to start at 6 PM UK time.
Thanks to the support from CEV and an agreement between the two clubs, the two games will take place at a neutral venue; Poland. The European Confederation agreed to the games being moved to Bełchatów, which has become home for training and games for IBB Polonia London. The idea was enthusiastically accepted by PGE Skra, the partner club of the English Champions and will provide their full support of the volleyball events. The games will be played in front of supporters and will be free of charge. For fans who are unable to attend the match in person, will be able to watch online: details will appear very soon on the Club’s social media.
IBB Polonia London has been preparing since August for these games. They have worked tirelessly under the watchful eye of Vangelis Koutouleas and his assistant Dominik Żmuda at the Hala Energia. The highlight of the preparations was the friendly match against partners PGE Skra Bełchatów. Both teams displayed some stars of volleyball who played some amazing volleyball, but the game was won eventually by the Polish giants. On court for the English team were recent bronze medallists of South America, and on the Polish side were European medallists and Asian Champions. The game played last Thursday is an excellent indicator of the upcoming challenges.
“It is going to be another important day in the history of The Club and the whole of English volleyball. For the third successive season we are taking part in the prestigious Champions League event. As usual, we have raised the bar for ourselves in terms of sport and organisation. Thanks to the cooperation with PGE Skra, and our partners and businesses, predominantly IBB Builders Merchants, we know that the event will be of the highest level. We have huge potential and I am optimistic that the fans attending both in person and on their screens, will see this increase in our level. I am inviting all volleyball fans to support us in this incredible moment as we play what will, no doubt, prove to be an amazing international volleyball event.” said CEO IBB Polonia Londonn, Bartek Łuszcz.
“IBB Polonia is once again playing Champions League. We have hosted dozens of Champions League games at Hala Energia, and the vast majority saw PGE Skra win. Our venue has experienced the unique atmosphere of the most prestigious competition in European volleyball and I am delighted that IBB Polonia London will be playing again. I hope that Hala Energia, the fans and Bełchatów will support the team from England and IBB Polonia London will win. We wish the best of luck to our friends” – said Konrad Piechocki, president of KPS Skra Bełchatów S.A.
