On Saturday 19th November, IBB Polonia played an away match against Durham: the current table toppers. Sadly the reigning champions played better and took the match in three sets.
For several seasons Durham has been one of the best teams in England and has played a high standard of volleyball; this resulted in them winning the title last year. As usual, the team from the far north, set the standard high and led the way throughout the first set taking it with ease 25:19. The second set followed in similar fashion and also went the way of Durham 25:17. In the third set Niski’s players found some form and battled throughout but ended up on a 3-0 hiding with a 26:24 defeat. The team from London fought until the last action and in pivotal moments had the upper hand, but it wasn’t to be and so Durham took the three points and ended the victorious run for IBB Polonia London.
Sadly the game against the champions didn’t go to plan. We were very well prepared tactically, but we couldn’t get into the game and realise the plan. I don’t want to offer excuses, but we had a very difficult journey and almost no warm up; and this didn’t make life easy. I thank the boys for fighting to the end” said Head Coach Gregorz Niski.
Following the defeat with Durham Palatinates, IBB Polonia London has 11 points and sits in fourth place of the Superleague table. The coming weekend should be interesting and intense with a double header against Tendring Essex.
The season is long and we have everything to play for. We will avenge this defeat in January when we play Durham in the quarter final of the National Cup. We have a busy weekend coming and we will do everything possible to secure all six points” concluded Niski.
All are warmly invited to IBB Polonia’s home court (Northolt High School) this Saturday at 4.30pm. Details will appear on social media very soon.
