Loss to Durham Palatinates
In the most recent round of the Superleague, IBB Polonia London succumbed to pressure on court from Durham. The game ended with a 3-1 win for the visitors, which gave them the Super league title.
Niski’s team were very motivated before and going into the game having won the recent quarter final in dramatic fashion. Right from the first serve, it was evident that the visiting players had learnt from their recent loss and took the first two sets to 19 points.
The third set was anybody’s to win with both teams exchanging micro leads throughout; it was never obvious who would take it until the last point. It was IBB Polonia London who managed to take the set 26-24 having made the best of their opportunities throughout. The final set also went the way of Durham, winning it once again to 19 and with it the entire match and the Super-League title for 2022/23.
„It was a very good game. The two best teams in the country went at each other for fours sets. About three weeks ago the same two teams battled it out in the quarter final of the Cup and it was IBB Polonia London who came out on top. This time it was to be Durham who played better. We should remember they are an excellent group of players. Their libero, setter and one of the outside hitters put on a real show today. Our team also had its chances today, but at key moments it was Durham who held their nerve better and managed to inflict the bigger blows” summarised Chris Hykiel
There are three more matches ahead of IBB Polonia London: University of Nottingham, Richmond Docklands and Malory Eagles.
„Durham is a team who has led the table since the start of the season. In the context of our remaining matches we must start the matches better, serve better and make fewer errors. These aspects are key at this level” said Vitor de Oliveira
More details about future fixtures will be shared on the usual social media pages.
