This coming Wednesday, 30th September 2020, IBB Polonia London will be locking horns with the giant that are the reigning champions of Serbia: OK Vojvodina Some Novi Sad.
The second opposition for the Londoners have won many championship titles in their illustrious history. They have dominated their domestic competitions and many international events as well, indeed they won the CEV Challenge Cup in 2015. Their roster for the existing season is comprised solely of Serbian players, and many of them started in the club as juniors. Some of the names appearing for Novi Sad are Luka Cubrilo and Aleksander Blagojevic. They certainly are a team not to be taken lightly; the game with Sinis Gavranic will be amongst the most demanding in the club’s history.
„We know a little less about Vojvodina than we do about Trentino. We know that the standard of volleyball in Serbia is of the highest calibre. I think there are three current National Team players in the Serbian squad, and physically they are huge. The majority stand at well over two metres tall, and playing against them will be huge challenge. We know that we have found ourselves in the toughest group the tournament, but that is the hand that fate has dealt us. Both Trentino and Vojvodina will be very hard nuts to crack. Despite this, the competition is an amazing chance for us to test ourselves against the very best” said middle blocker of IBB Polonia London, Phil Smith.
In the first round, there are six mini groups, and IBB Polonia London drew out of the hat, the names of two real giants: Trentino Itas and OK Vojvodina Seem Novi Sad – the Serbian title holders. Group F will be held in BLM Group Arena, the legendary home of Trentino.
