Two matches give four points to IBB Polonia London

For the second consecutive weekend, IBB Polonia London played games on both days. Two away matches took place which resulted in four points. On Saturday, after a five setter, University of Nottingham took the victory and on Sunday it was the favourites who beat Sheffield Volleyball Club.

The Saturday event didn’t start off according to plan according to Greg Niski; the first set was very level towards the end but the hosts nicked the important break point and the set 26-24. In the second, they also started more strongly taking control early on and with it the set was theirs at 25-18. Going into the third set, the hosts must have thought Christmas had come early, b ut a quick win 15-25 and a long slog 24-26 levelled the match at 2-2. The fifth set went the way of the home team and it was they who took the two points and IBB Polonia London just a single point.

The Sunday match was against Sheffield VC and was the second head to head this season; in November IBB Polonia London won 3-1, on this occasion the same team was victorious, but with a more emphatic 0-3 score line.

„For the second weekend in a row we played two games. The calendar is bizarre this year! We were given a late start for some reason and now we have four matches compressed into nine days! This is always going to be a challenge, especially when we were missing three key players. A coach’s role is to find solutions in these situations, and on this occasion the solution wasn’t quite good enough. We lost on Saturday against Nottingham; the first two sets were poor, and then we started to string something together, but the fifth set showed elements of tiredness and we made some uncharacteristic errors and that was enough to throw it away. Sunday was easier and we took it in three sets in Sheffield. Substitutes were given plenty of court time and they played well. I wish to extend my warm thanks to the players for the battle and engagement” concluded Coach Greg Niski.

University of Nottingham Volleyball Men-IBB Polonia Londyn 3:2 (26:24,25:18,15:25,24:26,15:9)

Sheffield Volleyball Club-IBB Polonia Londyn 0:3 (16:25,21:25,13:25)

Niski’s team currently sit in second place in the English Super-League. The next weekend sees a contest against Richmond Docklands. „We play the final match before Christmas; the London derby should be a great spectacle: we invite all fans to come and enjoy the game” encouraged Coach Niski

The game will be at 4.30pm on 10th December 2022 at Northolt High School and all details will appear on the usual social media.
