On Sunday, 24th November, volleyball fans gathered at Crystal Palace for an exciting Super League Live event. IBB Polonia London faced local rivals Malory Eagles in their opening home game of the season. Despite a spirited effort, Greg Niski’s team fell short, with Malory taking the win 0:3.
While this season hasn’t started as hoped for last year’s Super League runners-up, the energy, determination, and resilience within the team remain undeniable. There’s no doubt that brighter days are ahead for IBB Polonia London.
Sunday’s game marked the return of Ryan Dickson and Filipi Roidrujes to the starting lineup after injury layoffs, giving supporters a glimpse of the team’s full potential. The first set began as a balanced affair, with exciting rallies keeping the crowd on the edge of their seats. However, reception challenges allowed Malory to edge ahead, eventually taking the set 17:25.
In the second set, Polonia faced challenges in the front line as Malory continued to excel at the net. Even so, Polonia showed their fighting spirit, with standout performances from Dahmane Bentiti and Andrea Maggio narrowing the gap to 9-11. Malory called a time-out to regroup, and despite a strong serving streak and energising contributions from Ian Chau, Malory closed the set 21:25.
The third set was equally competitive at the start, with Polonia battling point-for-point. But Malory’s consistent play and a decisive attack from the middle sealed the match.
IBB Polonia London will take to the court again next Saturday, 30th November, against Durham Palatinates. First serve is at 16:30 at Northolt High School. Fans are encouraged to come and show their support as the team continues their journey in the Super League with hope and determination.
