IBB Polonia London continued their impressive run of form as they secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the National Cup.
Polonia, who are enjoying a strong run of form, made it three consecutive wins with their triumph against Black Country. The match began with a highly competitive first set, where Polonia edged out their opponents 30-28. This closely contested opening proved pivotal, as Polonia’s superior quality began to shine in the subsequent sets, which they won 25-18 and 25-16.
Reflecting on the game, Polonia’s Sports Director Chris Hykiel said:
“Matches like these are always a challenge. When facing teams from lower divisions, we often see them come out with great energy, particularly in the first set, as they have nothing to lose. Black Country were no exception—they have excellent middle players and displayed strong defensive play. The first set was crucial. They had their chances, but a few unforced errors worked in our favour. Once we managed to secure the first set, we were able to settle into our rhythm, and the difference in quality began to show. Credit to Black Country for making it a great contest, but I’m proud of the team’s effort and focus.”
The Polonia coaching staff were also able to give the entire squad valuable court time, further highlighting the depth of the team.
The National Cup quarter-final match-ups will be determined shortly, with the games scheduled to take place on 15th February. Joining IBB Polonia London in the last eight are: Essex Rebels, Stockport, Lincoln Cannons, Malory Eagles UEL, London Giants, Cambridge ARU, Richmond Docklands.
With several London teams still in contention, the capital will continue to have a strong presence as the tournament progresses.
