Super League win number two vs Team Sunderland

2023-10-230

In the second match of the Super League, IBB Polonia London took a big step forward by beating Sunderland in three quick sets.

Following on from the inaugral Super League Opening Weekend, Greg Niski’s players took on a tricky Sunderland as huge favourites and emerged the victors with a 3-0 victory.

The first set went according to the plans with outstanding blocking and attacking gave a significant advantage by mid set. Andrea Maggio was stunning from the service line and Dahmane Ben Titi (later awarded MVP) caused untold damage in the opposite position. The first set was over 25-14 in record time.

The second set was similar to the first with the home team in total control. Both teams defended well and the fans at Northolt High Sports Centre witnessed a few incredible rallies. The leader of the London based team was Andrea Maggio, but the middle blockers proved their worth in block and attack. The second set was also a quick one: 25-16.

The third set was a little more even. Team Sunderland had stated they didn’t want to have made the long journey and to lose in three sets; they tried everything they could, but to no avail. It was title contenders IBB Polonia London who finished the set off at 25-21.

“It was our match in every aspect. we won quickly and simply and everybody made it onto the court which is also important” said Andrea Maggio

Next week the opponents are the reigning champions: Durham Palatinates. It should be an epic encounter between two of the top teams in the league. Fans should expect a tough game with lots to cheer about.

“We really showed our good side against Sunderland. We know that there are a couple of aspects we need to improve upon before we play Durham” added Mihail Stoev.

The third Super League game against Durham Palatinates takes place on 29th October at 4.30pm at Northolt High School. Come along and support us! Details in our Social Media.
