The Super League season rolled on Sunday, 17th November 2024, as IBB Polonia London travelled to face Newcastle Knights in their first away fixture of November. Despite a 3:0 defeat, the team remains undeterred in their pursuit of their first victory this season. With belief building and improvements showing on the court, we are confident that their breakthrough is just around the corner.
IBB Polonia London entered the match determined to reverse their early-season misfortunes. Team captain Andrea exuded optimism ahead of the match, emphasising the squad’s hard work and desire to showcase their true potential.
Newcastle Knights, on the other hand, came into the game as an unpredictable force. As newcomers to the Super League, they had demonstrated their capability with a thrilling five-set victory over Malory Eagles on the Opening Weekend. However, a subsequent straight-sets loss to London Giants highlighted the challenges they face in the league’s top tier.
The match began with Newcastle Knights asserting their dominance, clinching the first set with relative ease. However, the second set turned into a gripping spectacle, showcasing the competitive spirit of both teams. Polonia pushed their hosts to the limit, with every rally fiercely contested. Despite their valiant effort, Polonia narrowly lost the set 30:28—a turning point that swung the momentum firmly in Newcastle’s favour. The third set saw Newcastle capitalise on their growing confidence and Polonia’s waning energy. The Knights sealed their 3:0 victory, delivering a commanding performance and denying Polonia their long-awaited breakthrough.
“Even though the scorelines don’t reflect it, we’re slowly starting to figure things out,” said Ian Chau “We travelled to Newcastle with just 9 players yesterday, but once we get Ryan back from injury and work out a few more kinks in our defensive system and our offensive decisions, I’m hopeful that we will get back into the swing of things. We have a big London clash coming up this weekend, and we need to use this stage to bring ourselves together and put a W in the bank!”
IBB Polonia London’s journey in the 2024 Super League remains fraught with challenges, but their resilience and potential are undeniable. As they regroup and refocus, supporters can take solace in the knowledge that their first victory is within reach. The road ahead for Polonia may be tough, but the season is young, and their fighting spirit remains strong.
