IBB Polonia London volleyball players recently took part s at the All Nations Tournament held in London. Among the standout performers were Filipi Rodrigues and Team Brazil, who emerged victorious in the competition. Additionally, Diego Tamburini and Andre Maggio, representing Team Italy Blue, secured a commendable second place.
The All Nations Tournament began in 2005, preceding London’s successful bid for the 2012 Olympic Games. The event was conceived to embody the Olympic ideal, blending sport, culture, and education. Now in its 17th year, the tournament continues to promote peaceful competition in a friendly, fun environment, highlighting the cultural togetherness that is so evident in London. The organising committee aimed to create an event that captured the eclectic mix of communities in London, positively promoting the city’s diversity.
The core focus of the All Nations Tournament is not only on competitive volleyball but also on raising cultural awareness and encouraging friendship and togetherness off the court. This philosophy has been embraced since the first tournament in 2005, which featured 170 participants from 24 nationalities.
The 2023 edition saw significant growth, with over 700 participants, 63 teams, and 85 nationalities represented. This substantial increase underscores the tournament’s importance as a highlight of the volleyball calendar and its role in bringing communities together through sport.
As the tournament marks its 20th year, IBB Polonia London players continued their tradition of participation. Filipi Rodrigues, playing for Team Brazil, led his team to first place. Team Italy Blue, captained by Andre Maggio and featuring setter Diego Tamburini, finished in a strong second place.
Other IBB Polonia London players who participated include George Ivanonv, Ian Chau, Sam Tisdall, and Olaf Matjusenoks. Their contributions were vital in maintaining the high standards of competition and camaraderie that the All Nations Tournament is known for.
Congratulations to all our players for their outstanding performances.
